Summerville SC is home to several parks and green spaces, making it a great place for families and outdoor enthusiasts. From Azalea Park to the new Summerville Skate Park, there is something for everyone here.

The town is also home to the Jerry Blackwell Sports Complex, which offers a variety of fields for tournaments and practice. Additionally, there are a number of golf courses nearby, including Summerville Country Club and Shadowmoss Golf & Country Club.

For those looking for a leisurely stroll, check out the scenic Camellia Gardens at Doty Park, which features a children’s playground and walking trail. Another popular park is the Wassamassaw Community Park, which provides a baseball/softball diamond, basketball court, tennis courts, free public Wi-Fi, gazebos, dog parks, and two separate large and small playgrounds. This park is also a great spot for picnicking, with tables and benches for visitors to enjoy. The park also boasts a pond, as well as a children’s fishing dock.

Events

There are plenty of special events that occur at Gahagan Park throughout the year. A few popular ones include a Fireworks and Freedom Festival, a truck-or-treat event, and a holiday celebration.

Celebrate the town’s 175th anniversary with an afternoon filled with music, food, a visit from Santa, jump castles, and fireworks. The festivities will take place in Gahagan Park, 515 W Boundary Street. Parking will be limited and a shuttle will run a constant loop between Summerville Town Hall and the Park.

The Jerry Blackwell Sports Complex at Gahagan Park offers baseball/softball fields, a football field, parking, a wooden playground, and bronze sculptures. It is home to the town’s adult softball league and Sertoma Youth Football Club and hosts multiple tournaments throughout the year.

Located in downtown Summerville, the Public Works Art Center has three galleries and exhibits that change every six weeks. You can also visit Mason, the World’s Largest Sweet Tea, or stroll through Azalea Park on a sculptural tour of 23 birds hidden with limerick clues. Visit another area in town here.

Nicknamed “Flowertown in the Pines,” Summerville is home to beautiful gardens and azaleas that put on a show every spring. The town also has a variety of parks that are ideal for outdoor recreation and community events. Dorchester County’s parks offer something for everyone, including a paved 6.5-mile Sawmill Branch walking and bike trail.

Brown Family Park features an amphitheater, benches, and tire hammock swings. The park also offers a children’s playground and walking trails. The Jerry Blackwell Sports Complex features baseball/softball and football fields, a playground, soccer fields, and parking.

Doty Park has a variety of amenities, including free public Wi-Fi, gazebos, horseshoe pits, picnic shelters, and tennis courts. The park also hosts community events such as movie nights.

The Summerville Skate Park offers a variety of facilities for skaters, including a grind box, rail, hubba ledge, a portlet, and stairs. Located at 651 Wassamassaw Road, the park is a popular destination for locals and visitors alike.

Sports Complex

The 184-acre Gahagan Park is home to baseball and football fields, a large playground with a castle, parking areas, picnic tables, and more. The park also includes a new Gahagan Plantation Trail that connects to Sawmill Branch Trail.

Hutchinson Square is a landscaped “town square” that hosts various events throughout the year, including Summerville DREAM’s Third Thursday events and Junior Service League’s Scarecrows on the Square. The square features a children’s playground and is connected to Rotary Centennial Park, which provides public boat landings, fishing piers, walking trails, and a dock area.

The park is also located near the Downtown Market, which offers a variety of local vendors selling food, clothing, and other goods. Other parks include Azalea Park, which has bronze sculptures, gazebos, and ornamental gardens and is also home to two tennis courts.
